Fixed sports gear, built to last years of use
Sports infrastructure is the fixed kit on and around a playing field: goal and behind posts, practice nets, the footings and sleeves that hold them, and the surfaces around them. It has to match the sport's dimensions. On an oval shared between football and cricket, a lot of it also has to come out at the end of each season and go back in the same place.

How we set out posts and nets
AFL posts are set out from the centre of the goal line. The two goal posts stand 6.4 metres apart, with a behind post a further 6.4 metres out on each side. Goal posts are at least 6 metres tall and behind posts at least 3 metres. We set concrete footings and ground sleeves to the post maker's detail, so posts lift out for cricket and drop back into the same position for football. Post supplier: supplier ASYS uses.
Practice nets go on a firm, free-draining base of compacted crushed rock or concrete, with a synthetic pitch on top and a 20.12 metre pitch length between the stumps. We lay out lanes and run-ups to Cricket Australia's community facility guidelines net supplier and base type ASYS uses.
On school sites we fence the work area off from students and schedule noisy work for holidays or after hours. Crew hold current Working with Children Checks WWCC held by all crew.

Common questions
What are the dimensions for AFL goal posts?
The goal posts are 6.4 metres apart, with a behind post a further 6.4 metres out on each side. Goal posts must be at least 6 metres high and behind posts at least 3 metres.
Can goal posts come out for cricket season?
Yes. We set the posts in ground sleeves on concrete footings. The posts lift out and a cap sits flush with the turf over each sleeve. For football they go back in the same position.
What base do cricket practice nets need?
A firm, free-draining base. That's usually compacted crushed rock or a concrete slab with a synthetic pitch on top. The choice comes down to budget and how hard the nets will be used.
Can you work on a school site during term?
Yes, with planning. We fence the work area off from students and schedule noisy or heavy work for holidays and after hours.
Do you build the rest of the school grounds too?
Yes. Paths, turf, planting, walls and irrigation are all part of our landscape construction work, so a school can use one contractor for the whole grounds package.
