The brief
The oval is shared. Football runs through winter and cricket through summer, on a turf wicket in the middle of the ground. The client needed new goal and behind posts at both ends that could come out each spring and go back each autumn without re-marking the ground brief.
What we built
We set out both goal lines from the centre of the ground: goal posts 6.4 metres apart, behind posts 6.4 metres beyond them. Each post sits in a steel ground sleeve cast into a concrete footing footing and sleeve detail. When the posts come out, a cap closes each sleeve flush with the turf so the outfield plays clean.
The detail that mattered
Set-out. Once a footing cures, a post in the wrong place stays there. We checked both goal lines against the ground's centre and the cricket square before pouring anything method. Services under the turf were located before we dug services located.
