The brief
The site dropped height from the street to the entry plaza. The developer wanted a wall with a finished face, and large planters to bring trees into a plaza with no deep soil brief.
What we built
We built the wall to the engineer's design: a concrete footing, then segmental blocks with geogrid layers tied back into compacted fill. Free-draining aggregate and an ag pipe sit behind it wall build-up. The octagonal planters were built on site or prefabricated, lined and fitted with drainage before soil and trees went in.
The detail that mattered
Setting out an octagon. Eight faces meeting at 135 degrees leave no room for error, and every planter had to line up with the paving grid. We set each one out from the paving centrelines before the first course went down method.
