The brief
The school's old nets had a cracked slab and torn netting, and staff had stopped using them brief. The new nets had to be built in the school holidays and ready for the first week of term.
What we built
We removed the old nets and built new lanes on a compacted crushed-rock base base type. Synthetic pitch surfaces are laid to the 20.12 metre pitch length, with full run-ups behind the bowlers' end. Galvanised steel framing carries the netting frame and net spec.
The detail that mattered
Drainage. A base that holds water makes the nets unplayable for days after rain. We graded the base so water runs off the lanes to a drain along one side drainage detail. The work area was fenced off from the rest of the school for the whole job.
